Namsan Seoul Tower: Free Views, Tickets and the Way Back

Choose the free Namsan park visit or paid N Seoul Tower observatory, compare bus and cable car costs, and plan the right downhill route.

You can visit Namsan Park without buying an N Seoul Tower observatory ticket. Decide separately how to get uphill and whether to pay for the indoor observation deck. The cable car is transport up the hill; its ordinary ticket does not buy observatory admission. Park admission · Tower admission

For a first visit focused on the outdoor view, start with the bus and decide about the observatory after checking visibility. If the cable car ride itself is part of your plan, budget for it separately and choose your return before buying a one-way ticket.

Choose the visit and its cost

The examples below use published standard-adult prices checked October 22, 2026. Bus totals assume two separate full-fare rides; they exclude the journey to the boarding stop, transit-card purchase, meals and discounts. Bus fares · Cable car fares · Observatory prices

Plan Adult total Choose it when
Bus both ways, outdoor park visit ₩3,000 The outdoor hilltop visit is enough
Bus both ways and observatory ₩32,000 You want the indoor view
Return cable car, outdoor park visit ₩15,000 You want the cable car ride
Return cable car and observatory ₩44,000 You want both and have time to queue

The listed observatory price is ₩29,000 for ages 13+, or ₩23,000 for ages 3–12 and seniors 65+. Under-36-month entry is free for one child per accompanying caretaker. The ordinary adult cable car is ₩15,000 return or ₩12,000 one way. A cable car one-way ticket is not a cheaper return ticket: plan the downhill bus or walk before choosing it.

A straightforward bus route from central Seoul

  1. Get to Chungmuro Station, Exit 2, served by subway Lines 3 and 4.
  2. Continue straight from the exit to the stop labelled for Chungmuro Station/Daehan Theater. In your map app, confirm 01A or 01B and that N Seoul Tower is ahead on that service.
  3. Have a loaded transport card ready: these buses are cashless. The tower lists ₩1,500 per ride. See the transport-card guide if you still need a card.
  4. Get off at the tower stop and follow the signs to the tower and outdoor viewing area. The bus arrival point is separate from admission to the observation deck.

The operator also lists boarding near Dongguk University Station Exit 6. From Myeongdong, another starting point is Namsan Yejang Bus Transfer Parking Lot; check its walking approach from your actual location. Boarding points and routes · Tower bus information

Do not build the plan around a normal car drop-off at the tower entrance: general vehicle access is restricted. If slopes or steps are a concern, confirm the complete route from the arrival point with the venue before choosing transport; a powered ride uphill does not by itself establish step-free access.

Choose the downhill bus by destination

Both routes circulate in one direction. The return is not the outward route in reverse. Official route map

  • For the Myeongdong side: look at 01B. After the tower, its shorter loop goes through Namsan Library, the cable-car/trail-entrance stop and Namsan Yejang. Pick the stop that matches your onward walking route.
  • For Namdaemun, Gwanghwamun or the palace area: 01A continues through the longer downtown loop. It can suit an onward visit, but is an unnecessary detour if your only aim is to return to the starting area quickly.

Search from the tower bus stop to your hotel, not merely from “Namsan” to a subway station. Review the actual stops before boarding. Set up a map route and save the return while your phone is charged.

When to choose the cable car or walk

For the cable car, the tower’s directions use Myeongdong Station Exit 3, followed by roughly 10–15 minutes on foot beside the Pacific Hotel to the boarding area. This is the approach to the lower station, not the whole journey to the tower. Waiting and the walk after the ride add time. Cable car approach

The cable-car operator lists 10:00–23:00, with ticket sales ending 30 minutes before closing (normally 22:30); weather can shorten or suspend service. Check the operator’s current notice before travelling. If the queue is too long or service stops, switch to the bus only after checking that it is still running and how to reach its stop.

For a walking visit, YTN’s published approaches include Namsan Public Library via the Southern Circuit, around 30 minutes, and the National Theater via the Southern Circuit, around 40 minutes. Those estimates start at the named approach points, not your hotel or subway platform. Add time for your pace, stops and the journey there. Choose a daylight walk if you are unfamiliar with the route; do not make an unplanned late descent your default backup. Walking approaches

Check the view, then the closing times

The observatory ordinarily opens 10:00–22:30 on weekdays and 10:00–23:00 on weekends and holidays. Last admission is 30 minutes before closing: normally 22:00 or 22:30, respectively. The operator warns that weather and other conditions can change operations. Observatory hours

A reservation is not required for an ordinary same-day observatory visit; the operator lists ticket counters at Tower 1F and the Plaza 5F information desk. This does not promise an empty queue or cover a separate restaurant or event booking. Ticket FAQ

Check visibility before paying for a skyline-focused visit. If the view is obscured, choose an indoor Seoul alternative before going uphill. A clear-weather photograph is not a forecast for your day.

For sunset, work backward from that day’s sunset to the viewing point, allowing for the approach, queue and optional observatory entry. Closing time is not a return-transport plan: the bus information’s 23:00 last departure is not a guaranteed 23:00 pickup at the tower. Check the specific downhill arrival and your last useful subway connection before staying late. Save this under the night-return checklist.

October–November 2026 note: Visit Seoul lists the Namsan Night Festival for October 23–November 14, with separate program dates, bookings and deposits. An ordinary park visit or tower ticket does not reserve a festival program. Check the festival listing and its booking link if that is the reason for your visit; this guide does not verify remaining places or foreign-card checkout.
