Gyeongbokgung at Night: Fall 2026 Tickets and Foreign Visitor Entry

For an evening walk through illuminated Gyeongbokgung, choose the seasonal night viewing, called 야간관람. Foreign visitors can use its limited same-day ticket allocation. The Starlight Tour, 별빛야행, is a separate reserved experience with food, performances and guided interpretation. Make sure the program name matches what you want before booking.

These details come from the August 18 official night-viewing notice. All times are Korea Standard Time. This is a dated seasonal opening; the calendar above does not establish later October or winter access.

For example, Monday, September 7 is closed for night viewing. A late dinner on an operating night also needs careful timing: 21:30 is closing time, so arriving at 20:45 would miss admission.

Choose your admission route

Book online in advance

1. Open the official NOL ticket listing, linked from the palace notice.
2. Select an operating date. Sales opened August 26 at 10:00 and end October 1 at 23:59; book by the day before your visit. Same-day online booking is unavailable.
3. Keep the booking details. Use the mobile ticket or collect it from the Gwanghwamun ticket-office kiosk. Enter together with everyone on that booking.

The notice limits each account to four tickets across the entire season. Refundable cancellation closes at 17:00 the day before the visit. We have not tested NOL account verification or foreign-card checkout; the published foreigner walk-up route below provides another option.

Buy a foreigner walk-up ticket

The palace’s official press release provides 300 same-day tickets per night for foreign visitors, sold at the Gwanghwamun ticket office, with a two-ticket limit per purchaser. Bring a passport or other accepted proof of foreign nationality.

For two travelers, bring both passports and approach the counter together. Do not assume an online sellout means the foreigner allocation has disappeared, but equally, this allocation is not a guaranteed reservation. Avoid making an expensive onward booking depend on obtaining a walk-up ticket. The notice does not specify when this counter starts selling; confirm that detail with the palace at 02-3700-3900 before building a queueing plan around a particular hour.

Use an eligible free-admission category

For foreign visitors, the night-opening exemptions cover children aged six or younger, adults aged 65 or older, and qualifying hanbok wearers. They do not need advance reservations; eligibility is checked at Heungnyemun Gate, with supporting identification. An accompanying adult needs their own admission unless independently exempt. These are the night program’s age rules, so a teenager’s free ordinary daytime admission should not be carried over to this event.

The seasonal notice places no headcount cap on eligible free admissions. For hanbok, the official dress guidelines accept traditional and everyday styles, with a jeogori top and hanbok skirt or trousers. A coat over ordinary clothes, a jeogori with jeans, or a hanbok skirt with a T-shirt does not qualify. The top must retain the overlapping collar form; staff assess compliance at entry.

Before renting, ask the shop about the complete outfit and its evening return deadline. Paying for a rental and meeting the palace’s admission rules are separate decisions. Allow time to change and return your clothes without rushing the final part of the visit.

Arrive for the part of the palace that is open

Save Gwanghwamun / 광화문 as your entrance landmark. The palace directions list Gyeongbokgung Station, Line 3, Exit 5, and Gwanghwamun Station, Line 5, Exit 2 as approaches. Include the walk from the station in your arrival plan.

The night-opening area includes Geunjeongjeon, Gyeonghoeru and the royal residential halls. Choose a few viewpoints rather than trying to reproduce a complete daytime itinerary. There is a current restriction: Geunjeongjeon’s raised stone terrace, or woldae, is closed September 2–October 31, 2026 for preservation. Follow the barriers; the terrace notice is not an announcement cancelling the whole night opening.

If you meant the Starlight Tour

The Korea Heritage Agency’s 2026 announcement describes a roughly 110-minute experience with a royal-style meal, performances and interpretation. It lists KRW 60,000 for the standard program, running September 2–October 24, Wednesday–Sunday, with September 30–October 4 excluded.

The Starlight Tour also has its own age restrictions: children born in 2020 or later cannot participate, and those born in 2008–2019 require an accompanying guardian, under the 2026 program rules. The ordinary night-viewing child exemption does not apply to this reserved program.

The initial ticket lottery has finished; any remaining general tickets went on sale August 28. October 21–24 are designated foreigner sessions booked through Creatrip. Follow the detailed official program page for that booking route and the session’s final terms. This guide does not confirm remaining seats or a foreigner-session checkout price.

A regular night-viewing ticket or hanbok exemption does not reserve this meal-and-tour experience. If your priority is simply palace lighting and an independent walk, use the regular night-viewing options above.
