Movies, Concerts and Exhibitions in Korea: How Visitors Can Book

Choose the experience before choosing the ticket site

Start with your available date, language needs and preferred activity. Then follow the cinema, artist, venue or organiser’s own booking link. A cinema screening, a live concert and a trade-fair badge have different admission conditions.

Movies: check the exact screening’s language

Use CGV, Lotte Cinema or Megabox to find branches and showtimes. An English film title or an English website does not establish the language you will hear or read in the auditorium.

Read the language labels alongside your selected screening. 자막 means subtitled, but does not specify English; 영어 자막 means English subtitles. 더빙 means dubbed. Ask which language the dubbing uses. Check age restrictions and whether you selected standard seating or a premium format before comparing prices.

To find Korean films accessible to English readers, start with the Korean Film Council’s Screenings with English Subtitles. Check the displayed week, open the cinema information, and reconfirm the exact showtime with that cinema. A listing for one session does not establish subtitles for every screening of that film.

If the online account or payment process does not work, ask the branch about counter purchases and remaining seats. Show staff the title, date and time, then ask “이 상영은 영어 자막이 있나요?” — “Does this screening have English subtitles?” We have not tested foreign-card checkout on these cinema sites.

A film-archive option in Seoul

Cinematheque KOFA in Sangam offers free screenings, with a ticket still needed for your seat. Its published policy allows up to two tickets per person and online reservations five days ahead; online booking is currently described as Korean-only. The box office opens one hour before the day’s first screening. Seats remain subject to availability.

Choose a film from its current programme, check subtitles on the individual film page, and plan around the stated Sunday/Monday closure and holiday notices. This suits visitors interested in repertory cinema whose dates match the programme.

Concerts: prepare your identity details before the sale

NOL World and YES24 Global Ticket are useful starting points for international booking. Confirm that the artist’s announcement names the seller for your particular event. An artist’s different concerts may use different channels.

1. Open the official event notice. Record the venue, performance date and ticket-sale time in Korean time.
2. Separate fan-club presale from general sale. Check eligibility, registration deadlines and ticket limits before trying to book.
3. Check the required account and identity verification in advance. Review the spelling and order of your name before submitting it.
4. Compare the full payable amount: seat price, booking charges and any delivery or package extras. Read the event’s cancellation deadline before paying.
5. Save the completed reservation in your account and follow the stated ticket-collection or mobile-entry procedure.

For example, YES24’s current FAQ says its global ticket account is separate from its other services. Selected performances marked “Verified Member Only” require passport and face verification; YES24 recommends completing this one or two days before sales. For venue pickup, its general guidance requires a valid physical passport/ID and booking confirmation, with event-specific rules taking priority. A mismatch between the account and passport name can cause collection problems.

Before considering a resale offer, check whether the organiser permits transfer and how the replacement attendee’s identity is recorded. A seller’s screenshot cannot establish that you can collect or use the ticket. Use the official seller’s support if a name or payment error occurs; do not send passport images to a stranger offering to “fix” a booking.

A bookable show without following Korean dialogue

Myeongdong NANTA is an open-run kitchen-themed performance built around physical comedy and percussion. The operator lists seat prices of KRW 50,000 for A, 60,000 for S and 70,000 for VIP, before any applicable offer.

Choose Myeongdong and a dated performance in the official booking flow. The operator lists online purchases until two hours before the show, online cancellation until 24 hours before it, and ticket pickup/on-site sales from one hour before it. Bring the requested booking confirmation or ID and check the selected performance’s conditions. Published prices and a calendar do not prove a seat is currently available.

Exhibitions and fairs: follow the calendar to the organiser

Browse Visit Seoul’s exhibitions for cultural outings, or the COEX calendar for events at the convention centre. Follow the event’s organiser link to its visitor page. Food, design, art and lifestyle themes may suit a leisure itinerary; technical conferences need closer attention to audience and access conditions.

Check these three things before adding a fair to your route:

• Who can enter? Find public visitor or general-admission instructions. Exhibitor, buyer and conference-speaker applications serve different purposes.
• What does the registration buy? Check which dates, halls and sessions it covers, whether each person must register, and whether a confirmation must be exchanged for a badge. For example, ISSA Show Asia explicitly requires individual registration; an accompanying guest does not enter on someone else’s registration.
• Which venue? Save the full address and hall. COEX Magok has its own calendar and is a separate venue from COEX in Gangnam. KINTEX is in Goyang, outside Seoul.
