Plan the way off Nami Island before choosing the train or shuttle that takes you there. The island visit involves a mainland arrival, a ferry crossing and a separate journey back to Seoul. A late boat does not guarantee a useful onward connection.
For a first visit, make Nami Island the main outing. Adding another attraction can work with a clearly timed itinerary, but it also adds another transfer and another deadline. This guide helps you decide whether independent travel or a booked shuttle suits your party, and what to confirm before paying.
Choose how much flexibility you need
| Approach | A good fit when | Main trade-off |
|---|---|---|
| Train to Gapyeong, then reach the wharf | You want to choose your own departure and island time | You arrange the station–wharf connection and return yourself |
| Booked Seoul round-trip shuttle | You prefer a defined pickup and return meeting point | Your island visit must fit the booked departure |
| Multi-stop package | You want several named stops and accept a fixed itinerary | Compare actual time on the island, not only the list of attractions |
Choose with the slowest member of your party in mind. Walking, finding a pickup point and waiting to board all take time even when the ride itself is short. With a pushchair, wheelchair or heavy bag, confirm boarding arrangements with the operator rather than treating a map route as proof of easy access.
Budget for admission and the journey separately
The official admission page lists ₩19,000 for regular admission including a round-trip ferry. The listed motorboat-in/ferry-out option is ₩29,000. These are different products: the standard ferry ticket is sufficient if you simply want to visit the island. Reduced categories have their own eligibility rules; check the operator’s current table and any evidence required before relying on a discount.
Before choosing the motorboat option, check the operator’s service conditions: it runs seasonally from April through November, 09:00–18:00, with departures requiring at least two passengers and a maximum of five per boat. A solo traveler should confirm whether a departure is available rather than assume an immediate ride. Outside that season or window, use the standard ferry plan instead; operating conditions can change.
Build your total as admission plus transport to the mainland wharf, food and any optional activities. A ferry-inclusive ticket should not be read as a Seoul transport package. For a shuttle or tour, read the actual inclusions: does its quoted price include admission, or only the bus? Save the booking details and cancellation conditions before departure.
If comparing two offers, write down the same four items for each: mainland transport, admission, time available on the island and return meeting arrangements. This makes a low headline price easier to evaluate without assuming that the cheaper product contains fewer extras or that the dearer one is more convenient.
Reach the mainland wharf, not just Gapyeong Station
The operator’s access page lists Gyeongchun Line and ITX-Cheongchun services to Gapyeong Station. From there it lists bus 10-4 or a taxi to the island’s mainland entry area. Check the current route, direction and next departure at the station; do not build a tight connection around the page’s short estimated transfer time. A taxi is an alternative when the bus wait would consume too much of your visit.
Save Nami Island Gapyeong Wharf / Nami Island Ticket Office, at 1024 Bukhangangbyeon-ro, Gapyeong-eup, Gapyeong-gun, as the mainland destination. The island itself has a different Chuncheon address. This distinction matters when showing a destination to a driver or checking a map pin.
For independent travel, find a usable return train before buying the outward journey. Check its actual departure station and date, and leave room for the ferry and station transfer. Our official train-booking checks explains booking checks; use the current booking screen for this journey’s availability and fare.
The official access page also links a round-trip Seoul shuttle operated by Ktourstory. Its displayed island departure is 16:30, but your confirmed booking’s meeting point and time should control the day. Do not use the island’s late ferry hours as permission to miss a booked bus.
Read the ferry hours for your date and direction
The standard ferry table lists departures to the island from 08:00 to 21:00, and from the island from 08:05 to 21:05. Daytime intervals are listed as 10–20 minutes between 09:00 and 18:00, with half-hour intervals in the earlier and later bands. The crossing is approximately five minutes after boarding; queues and boarding are additional.
There is a dated autumn exception in 2026, from September 18 through November 22: the operator lists a 07:30 first ferry daily and a 21:30 last-ferry extension on Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays. The late extension is not listed for every weekday. Confirm the return departure at the wharf, particularly because the seasonal note does not spell out both directions as precisely as the standard table. Hours can change; recheck the notice for your visit date.
For a relaxed daytime trip, pick a planned return well before the final service. Treat the last boat as a limit to avoid, rather than the boat around which every other connection must work.
Build a simple island visit around the return
After arriving, locate the return boarding area and photograph the current departure information. Choose a manageable walking outing with a meal or rest break, leaving optional stops for the time that remains. A flexible visit is easier to shorten if queues or a slower walking pace use more time than expected.
Before walking farther from the pier, set a reminder for when to head back. Work backward from your mainland departure: allow for reaching the island pier, waiting, crossing, leaving the wharf and reaching the next pickup or station. This is a planning sequence, not a promise that those steps will take a fixed number of minutes.
If the return plan changes, act while you still have options. Check another train before leaving for the station, or contact the booked shuttle operator if you cannot reach its meeting point. A mainland taxi can help with the wharf–station leg, but it cannot solve a missed final boat from the island. Keep the wharf location and your Seoul accommodation address saved offline.
