Count the parts of a transfer that are easy to miss

An advertised train journey does not include checking out, carrying bags to the station, waiting, or finding your next accommodation. This planner groups that time into the transfer allowance you enter. A route with more cities may leave less time for the activities you wanted to do.

How the calculation works

Calendar days include both the arrival and departure dates. Nights are the difference between those dates. We subtract the arrival and departure allowances, then divide total transfer hours by your chosen planning hours per day.

For the example shown, eight calendar days minus two half-days and a four-hour transfer within an eight-hour planning day leaves 6.5 day-equivalents. That is a scenario, not a recommended timetable. The calculation treats all entered hours equally and does not account for venue hours, fatigue, border processing, traffic or train availability.

Turn the number into a workable itinerary

Place your important activities on days with dependable blocks of time. Keep optional stops near those activities. Check opening notices and booking slots separately before deciding that the schedule works.

For a same-day visit, arrival and departure allowances both come out of that one day. If allowances exceed the trip, the available budget stops at zero and a warning appears. Nothing is saved when you leave this page.
